Background Description
An ancient fern that thrives in cool, shady spots. Its newly sprouted fronds will curl tightly at the tips, forming tender, fresh fern balls. Naturally dehydrated after being picked, these balls are easy to preserve as compact, long-lasting dried food.
Before eating, simply soak them in snowmelt to rehydrate, and they instantly regain a vibrant, fresh green, as if just harvested. The Roya often thread Fern Spores for grilling or scatter them in shaded areas to grow new ferns. Most Roya have their first taste of Fern Spores in early childhood, though it's rarely a fond memory.
